A Pearl For My Pearl

01

While I’ve always been fascinated by those stands that allow you to choose your own clam and open it up to find a pearl, it wasn’t until I had Princess in June that I realized just how awesome those little “beads” are!  Not only do pearls come in a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes, but they’re the only birthstone that comes from an animal!

This past weekend during my Mom’s yearly visit, we went to Pier 39 – Fisherman’s Wharf {one of my favorite places in San Francisco} and passed Pearl Factory where I couldn’t resist whipping out my wallet and telling Little Man to pick out a good looking clam!  At only $14.99, it was the perfect way to allow Little Man to choose something special for his sister.

The first part of this adventure began with Little Man choosing the perfect clam from the bucket of fresh water clams {pictured above}. Little Man didn’t know what was coming, so it was fun to watch him question why he was choosing a clam out of the bucket.

Now that we had the perfect clam, it was time to open that puppy up and find out what kind of pearl was inside!!  After making a wish and tapping the clam 3 times, the woman helping us opened the clam and dug out the beautiful pearl inside.  She cleaned it with salt and then made sure that Little Man was the first person to ever touch the pearl {I loved that she did that!}.

We were pleased to see that the pearl that came from the clam Little Man chose was large and cream colored.  According to the chart {pictured below}, this stood for happiness which is quite an accurate description of my little Princess.

Don’t get me wrong, I totally understand that this is a tourist trap and designed to bring you in to sell you over-priced jewelry displaying your new pearl, but that doesn’t change how much I loved this whole process!  The lady helping us wasn’t pushy at all, either, which was a relief.  It was such a neat experience and for only $15, you can’t beat the memories made with me and my Little Man :)

Have you ever opened a clam to find a pearl?  If so, what color did you get and what did you do with the pearl afterwards?  I chose just to keep the pearl and not buy any jewelry, but I plan on buying a cage necklace soon to wear it around.  It will go perfectly with the Sapphire ring I wear to represent my son {who’s birthday is next month, September}.

Celebrating Father’s Day In Style This Year

Is anyone else as stumped about what to buy Dad for Father’s Day this year as I am?  My husband really does have everything he needs, so this year, I’m trying to find him something he wants, but doesn’t necessarily KNOW he wants.

I’m leaning towards clothes.

000387471Like many, my husband has a habit of gearing his clothing purchases towards things that he can use at work. This results in his entire wardrobe being covered in everything from paint to sealing putty. Finding something nice to wear out on special occasions has become a ridiculously tedious task that takes its toll on both Daddy and myself.  I think a working man like Daddy could use some new clothes that will put a little pep in his step this Father’s Day, don’t you?

One place I’ve been scoping out for Father’s Day gifts this year is John Lewis.  His line of g-star jeans, jackets, and tops for men and women are both affordable and stylish. I love that there are clothes for all occasions, so whether we’re going to a fine dining restaurant or just out for family day at the park, Daddy can look great and be comfortable. I’m sure that’s something any Dad would enjoy for Father’s Day.

Maybe after I choose some new clothes for Daddy’s wardrobe, I can surprise him with a visit to a local shoe shop and we can get him some new shoes that will finish off his new look!  I know he’ll appreciate some shoes he can wear proudly and not just wear at work or around the yard.

What are you getting your husband or father this year for Father’s Day?  I’m still looking for ideas and would love to know what others plan on purchasing the father in their life that seems to have it all!

Show Everyone How Much Santa Rocks This Year With Just Jen Custom T-Shirts

Themed shirts were always a dreaded family tradition growing up. There’s nothing a child dreads more than those tacky Christmas shirts that everyone in the family is forced to wear and, somehow, got more and more embarrassing every year!

If only my Mom had a store like Just Jen to get our shirts from!  Just Jen is a hip custom t-shirt company featuring rhinestone t-shirts, clothing, and gifts. Whether it’s Christmas, a family member’s birthday, or your best friend’s wedding, Just Jen has just what you need. Their high quality shirts are adorned with custom rhinestones that are securely attached. I’ve washed mine quite a few times now and it still looks good as new!

To help ring in the holiday season, Just Jen sent me their Santa Rocks t-shirt. I was really surprised by  how many options you get as far as what type of shirt you want the rhinestones to be placed on. Being that it gets a little chilly here at night, I decided to go with the fitted long-sleeve in black. The dark background really made the design pop and I’ve been rocking the shirt a couple times a week since Christmas is so close.

Given the high quality and personalization of all the shirts offered by Just Jen, I have to say that their prices are reasonable, as well.  Each shirt is made to order and they are high quality – don’t expect the rhinestones to fall off easily like most! Most of the designs come e The Embarrassment Out Of Holiday Themed Shirts With Just Jenwith the option of over 10 shirt styles ranging from tank tops to baggy long-sleeves. Many can even be placed on the back of a pair of underwear or on some comfortable sweat pants.

This year, don’t embarrass your kids – get them some holiday shirts that they’ll actually WANT to wear!  For all your personalized rhinestone gifts, check out Just Jen!

Holiday Gift Guide: Foldin’ Money Designs Kits

Giving the gift of cash this year? Why not spruce it up a little and shape that money into a fun and creative looking gifts in themselves with Foldin’ Money!

Foldin’ Money kits come in a variety of styles that fit any occasion. The Red Collection by Foldin’ Money, which sells for $14.95, includes a neat Christmas tree template that allows you to turn 5 bills {whatever denomination you want them}, into a festive Christmas tree for your loved one! The same kit includes heart, cake, and tie templates; all of which make great gifts!

The one issue I had with the kit was that you had to use adhesive. While I’m sure the bills would be alright, I hate the idea of putting tape on the money.

The Foldin’ Money kit shapes are simple to make and will be a conversation starter in themselves. This kit would be a great way to make gifts for any age recipient – toddler to adult! You don’t have to be crafty to use the kits since they come with handy templates. The templates also keep creations sturdy and together.

Holiday Gift Guide: Phillips Norelco Vacuum Stubble & Beard Trimmer

When I started looking for a gift for Daddy this year, I knew it had to be something practical or he wouldn’t really like it. His tool collection is quite large, so I looked at other little obstacles in his day-to-day life. It became immediately apparent that shaving some time off his morning routine would DEFINITELY be a good Christmas present! That’s why I’m excited to see his face when he opens his present this year and finds a Phillips Norelco Vacuum Stubble and Beard Trimmer!

If you’ve ever had to tediusly clean up all the little hairs left over after your husband shaves his beard, you’ll appreciate the Phillips Norelco Vacuum Stubble and Beard Trimmer! Not only is it designed to trim the stubble and then vacuum it away leaving no mess behind. With the turbo button, you can boost the trimming speed and vacuum suction for those tough jobs. The digital display is great because it clearly displays the current height of the blade, lithium-ion battery life of the trimmer {it can be used either corded or cordless}, and a travel function to prevent the trimmer from turning on when you’re on the go.

I can’t wait to see Daddy’s face on Christmas morning when he opens this beard trimmer. The handy clean-out will be a key feature to him because he hates cleaning up the little hairs his current one leaves behind. At under $45, this would make a great gift for any teenager or adult this holiday season! It’s something they’ll use almost daily and be VERY thankful for.

Holiday Gift Guide: Ornaments With Love Personalized Ornaments

Christmas really is one of my favorite times of the year!  I love setting up the tree, wrapping it in tinsel and lights, and going through with Little Man and hanging each and every ornament from our giant box of delicate glass balls. Because I keep them in a separate, more cushioned box, our personal and special Christmas ornaments are saved for last.

This year, I had the pleasure of adding a beautiful new personalized ornament to our Christmas tree. When I first hung it on the tree, Little Man was ecstatic to see a little version of him on the ornament. He immediately made the connection between the three of us and he loves showing it off.

Ornaments With Love makes some adorable Christmas Ornaments for any occasion. A new Christmas ornament is a wonderful way to mark the end of the year and remember it for many years following. The little snowman family we received will surely be the centerpiece of our Christmas tree for a while. It’s bold and really stands out against the green of my tree. Whether the recipient won the big game or overcame a big hurdle for themselves, Christmas ornaments are a special gift that will be a story-starter for years to come.

Holiday Gift Guide: Schick Xtreme 3

This year, give your friend or loved one the gift of a clean shave!

Schick, a company my husband and I have come to love and trust, has developed a new style of razor that would make a great holiday gift this year!

Schick Xtreme 3 comes in 2 styles:

  • For Women - Xtreme 3 Hawaiian Tropic
This disposable razor smells absolutely wonderful and is designed to give the user a sweet aroma, sending their senses on a Hawaiian vacation. You get the clean shave you would expect from a Schick razor, with the added bonus of a Aloe, Vitamin E, & Jojaba that fight razor burn {GUARANTEED}. The razor handle smells so good and has a nice comfortable grip that lets you hold at a variety of angles without it slipping out of your hand.
  • For Men – Xtreme 3 Refresh Fit Style
Like the Hawaiian Tropic version that’s made for women, Schick’s Xtreme 3 for men has a lightly scented handle that definitely adds to the shaving experience. My husband liked that the smell wasn’t overwhelming. He used the same razor a couple times {HINT: If you dry a disposable razor after using it, it lasts longer than just one shave! Letting water sit on a razor blade leads to rust!}. The three blades are topped with a flexible soothing bar that’s made-up of pre-shave oil and vitamin e. Not only does the handle have a refreshing scent, but it’s got comfortable ridges that allow your man to contour the razor to run around his face and neck without slipping out of his hand and into the sink.

Right now, when you buy 2 specially marked packages of Schick razors {see the pictures to the right}, and you get a $10 gift card to iTunes!  That’s a bonus gift for the recipient and you have to love that!  Schick Xtreme 3 razors make great stocking stuffers because they’re compact and affordable.  It’s a gift the recipient will definitely use. Teens would love getting these because they”ll get great razors AND some great Schick Tunes!

Holiday Gift Guide: Aqua Notes

ve you ever been in the bathtub and had a really good idea, but no way to write it down? I’ve had this happen to me a few times, actually. It usually has to do with a blog post idea or a task I meant to complete but totally forgot about. Keeping paper and a pencil in the bathroom isn’t exactly feasible since whatever you write down will more than likely end up wet and ruined.

If you’ve ever had an idea in the shower that you wish you could have written down, check out Aqua Notes! These waterproof notepads suction right to the wall of your shower and allow you to quickly jot down any ideas. How neat is that?

DRY

WET

The Aqua Notes Waterproof Notepad comes with 40 sheets of waterproof paper {in a pad}, a pencil, and suction cups to attach both to the wall of your shower or tub. One pad costs $7, making this a wonderful gift this holiday season!  If you’ve got more than one person on your shopping list that would love Aqua Notes, then be sure to take advantage of their bulk discounting!

Don’t let your thoughts rush down the drain! Jot down your notes on The Aqua Notes Waterproof Notepad!
